 Gcash Reference Number use

The 13-digit code is used as a reference for the payment or transfer. Bottom line: it serves as a reference for accounting purposes.

In addition, this comes in handy whenever you run into a problem with the process. One example is when you have not received the amount someone else transferred to your account. When you report the incident to the Gcash help center, it’ll be easier for them to track the specific activity with your Gcash registered mobile number and reference number.

Gcash reference number versus remittance reference number

Some people might interchange and find Gcash and remittance reference numbers confusing.

  • The Gcash reference number has 13 digits or characters, while the remittance reference number has 8 to 10. For Moneygram, they ask for an 8-digit reference number to process cash. Western Union requires a 10-digit MTCN to proceed with the withdrawal.
  • The latter expires in 30 days, whereas the former has no expiration.
  • Input versus output The remittance number, or MTCN (mobile transfer control number), is needed to withdraw the funds sent to you via international remittance. The former, provided by Gcash, is generated after the transaction is complete.
  • The remittance is only used when you transact with international remittances like Western Union and Moneygram. All GCash activities end with a GCash reference number.

To clarify further, the remittance number is automatically generated from the sender’s end. Before attempting to cash in, ensure you have the number to complete the cash-in process.

Bottom line: You can be sure that the transaction was successful once you receive the reference number, either in the form of a text message or sent to your email.
